Hurricane Ike - 2 Weeks Later

First, we must mention - this is a two post week! We figured Benjamin deserved his own entry separate from Ike. I mean why combine mean Ike with cute, sweet Benjamin?

So, our neighbors finally got electricity after 15 days without this luxury. Yes, they had to stare across the street at all their neighbors on the north side of the street as we “taunted” them with our electricity for 9 days (we got ours 5 days after the storm). We celebrated with mimosas (Benjamin had orange juice). Now, we all joke that we will see one another next storm. Hopefully, we will never have to experience a power outage as crazy as this one. At least now, we will always appreciate electricity.

Things are getting more and more back to normal. The “hurrication” has officially ended for most Houstonians (however, there are still some without power at this very moment). We continue to hope for the best for others who were close to the coast who were (and are still) affected in a much more complicated manner than we were.

The streets are still littered with large piles of dead tree and leaves material but in due time those will go away. We all get excited when we see a tree truck pass through the streets. We used to feel that way about the Centerpoint and AT&T contractors.

Let's hope that hurricane season slows down and takes it easy on the rest of us. November is fast approaching...tick tock.
