Routine Rituals

ROUTINE:

Benjamin has his routines...he takes a nightly bath and then it's book time and then a little rocking in the chair - and wa la - we put him in the crib and he sleeps. He has started a new ritual to his routine...but come to think of it are these really exclusive? He likes to pick out his books that we read to him. And, this can be quite a task for a little one. He gets so excited and just wants to pick another out before the first book is read. We are starting to enter the "stall" before bedtime. I can see how picking out books will become a bigger task as he gets bigger.

GROWTH SPURT:

Benjamin has hit a growth spurt. He has grown up and he is getting heftier. We are curious of his weight/height change since his last doctor's visit. His next appointment is in two-weeks (His 18-month follow-up). He is eating us out of the house. All the fruit in our fridge has been dedicated to our little guy - so much that we neglect to feed ourselves in fear of eating "his" food. As most things in our pantry are "his" food. What happened to "us"? It's all about him! Rightfully, so.

COMMUNICATION:

We tried teaching Benjamin sign language when he was younger, but admittedly, we didn't follow through as we should have - however, Papi did a great job instilling the sign for food. Benjamin now heads to the fridge (often) and signs that he wants food. In addition, to verbally telling us that he is hungry.

Most of Benjamin's words are not entirely clear - most things sound like "this", "juice", "ice", "hot", and bah. He gets a bit frustrated when we don't quite understand what he is trying to convey but for the most part - we are connecting with him. He is happy, thus we are happy.

TEETHING UPDATE:

Benjamin has finally cut two of his molars on the top of his mouth and he has another one poking through on the bottom - we hope this one cuts soon. But, he has a long way to go before he finishes so we suppose it really won't "end" any time soon.

CHILDREN'S MUSEUM:

Mami took Benjamin to the museum today because the weather was foggy, wet, and very humid. We haven't been to the museum since Benjamin has started to play independently so it was a real joy to watch him run around and choose which gadget to play with all the while staring at the other kids around him.
